  1. Amino Acids

Bone broth contains a protein called gelatin, which has four “conditional” amino acids: arginine, glycine, glutamine, and proline. “Conditional” amino acids are typically not essential amino acids. However, these amino acids become essential when you are ill or under stress. Each of these amino acids are known to have healing elements that can enhance your overall health.

Arginine is essential for the functionality of the immune system and aids in healing wounds. In addition, this amino acid helps restore liver cells that have been damaged. Another important role arginine plays is in the producing and releasing of growth hormones.


Glycine is a key element of collagen, which regulates skin and hair health and reduces joint pain. This amino acid is required for the building of DNA and RNA strands, which are the needed genetic building blocks for functioning body cells. Glutamine is a vital nutrient for improving gastrointestinal health by rebuilding intestinal walls. This amino acid acts like a Band-Aid in healing leaky gut and ulcers, and further prevents damage from occurring in the intestines.

Proline is essential for collagen formation, regulating blood pressure, and repairing tissue. Since proline produces collagen, it helps keep your skin healthy. Additionally, this amino acid aids in the breaking down of proteins to use in healthy cells.

  1. Collagen Types 1 and 3

Collagen is one of the most plentiful proteins in the body. However, as we age, collagen levels begin to decrease. Though collagen can be found in certain food sources, it is difficult to consume as this protein is in parts of an animal that is hard to eat. As a result, outside sources of collagen, such as bovine collagen, must be used to supplement.  

Bovine collagen is a natural protein that is found in a cow’s bones, hide, and muscles, further providing Type I and Type III collagen.

Type I collagen is the most abundant collagen found within the human body and forms collagen fibers. This type of collagen is located in ligaments, tendons, and bones.

Type III collagen works alongside Type I collagen. However, Type III collagen is found in bone, bone marrow, connective tissue, and cartilage. Both types of collagen makeup over 90 percent of the body’s collagen and are made up of amino acids, such as glycine and proline.

These types of collagen are the main building blocks of nails, hair, skin, bones, muscles, ligaments, tendon, eyes, gums, and teeth.

  1. Hydrolyzed Protein

A hydrolyzed protein means that a protein has been partially digested, or “hydrolyzed.” This process includes either adding proteolytic enzymes or heating a protein with acid in order to break down the protein. As a result, the proteins break down into single amino acids and amino-acid peptide strands.

Hydrolyzed protein allows for better, faster delivery of amino acids from your stomach to muscles. This prevents amino acids that are going to your muscles to be extracted by the liver. As a result, your muscles will recover better from a damaging workout.
